"This painting is a “Seasonal Painting,” meaning that it represents a significant theme or lesson that I learned in a specific season of my life. I painted the girl just after coming home from my 7-month trip to France and French Polynesia in Spring of 2014. The trip I’d just come home from was amazing and exhausting. I was physically, emotionally & spiritually exhausted. Towards the end of that trip, the last days were filled with many moments of little but powerful encouragements where God reminded me to ‘Just Breathe,’ I had to continue reminding myself to just keep breathing. So reminiscent of how I always forget to breath when I’m working out: There have been so many moments where I was running, stretching, dancing, singing, playing soccer, lifting something, or doing some type of physical activity… and the people around me would say: “Casia don’t forget to breathe!” because I would always concentrate on the physical work/challenges that I was facing and forget to physically breathe. God reminded me of this as spiritual metaphor for what I was going through in the last stretch of that outreach.

When I got back to France and had already finished the school, I was sorting through my papers and notes one day while preparing my suitcase and came across a sketch from my secret santa {Farrah} during our outreach christmas. I was shocked to see that she had simply and boldly written the word: “BREATHE.”
This blew me away. God always speaks to me the strategy before I enter into the challenge, and then reminds me that He has already shown me the strategy for a challenging season before I even entered it. I love how God shows us that He knows what we are going into so as to remind us that it is not TOO much to handle because God is right there alongside us. wow

God gave me the strategy and gave me the season of rest when coming back, and this painting came out of the focus and strategy in that time: "Just Breathe."

"Sometimes I forget
to pause and wait
to take a break from the day to day
and breath, just breath.
to calm your heart
and slow your mind,
for more than a few, moments
and listen
Cause I found
you weren’t in the wind,
or in the quake
or in the fire.
Cause you were in the still small voice
you were in the space of waiting in the quiet place
The weight falls on listening, seeking your voice
you told me you are found by those who seek you in truth
And I found you in the still small voice
Yeah I found you in the space of waiting in the quiet place

to listen for the breath.
to stop
to pause
to wait

to breathe."
