It is May, the fifth month of the year, and spring is in full swing. This months name is derived from the Greek name Maia meaning “mother” & is symbolic of “fertility”. One of May’s birth flowers is the hawthorn blossom, which signifies sweetness, fertility, and motherhood (among other things). Whenever I leave the house right now, Motherhood is on full display everywhere I look in nature. Today when I went out, I saw a mama duck with her team of ducklings, a herd of deer with their fawn & many birds working on their nests or gathering food for their young. The Hawthorn tree has the ability to produce berry-like fruits that are usually produced in large quantities and serve as a source of highly nutritious food for animals and humans alike, hence it’s symbolism: It is symbolic of a persons ability to produce in large amounts as well as to start something new. As many of us begin to prepare for the transition back to normal life from quarantine, and wonder what it will be like afterwards, many are finding themselves in a new position & many are having to adapt to something new. But it is a time of abundance and sweetness and there is a grace to be productive more so than usual.
